Families and communities nationwide made it a point to set aside time and reconnect. The Prairies of North Dakota proved to be no exception as numerous families and communities of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th generations of the prairie pioneers gathered together. One such gathering began in the northern area of North Dakota in the town of Perth. July of 2000 brought together not only people, but the bond that united the pioneers, "MUSIC". It is now "Music on the Prairie" that moves these generations of people scattered all over the USA & Canada to set aside time each year, the third weekend in July to return to Perth, North Dakota. MUSIC ON THE PRAIRIE - IT'S FOR EVERYONE REINO TUOMALA: The person with the Music on the Prairie vision was Reino Tuomala. "Fire it Up" was his pet expression as a call to action. Reino was a 3rd generation descendant of
the prairie pioneers. He was a successful business man who moved away
from the prairie, but who's heart still remained attached to
the prairie. When a reunion was planned in Perth in 2000, Reino
saw and felt the need to have an annual get together that would
be for the enjoyment of all those who are connected to the prairie of
North Dakota. "Firing it Up" he called together a group of individuals
who would be formed into a committee that would make up the "Music
on the Prairie" organizing team. Never taking "NO" for an answer, he
arranged for Bobby Vee and the Vee's to be the initial professional
entertainment for the event. So far, Bobby Vee and his band have
attended all the Music on the Prairie events. It truly was this vision
that brings you to this web site today, and it would be Reino's desire
for you to personally enjoy yourself as you reconnect with the prairie
and enjoy the music that keeps calling you back to it. Reino lost his battle with cancer in October of 2001. PERTH HISTORY Perth was founded in 1897 by R.J. Laird. The Great Northern Railroad was being built at this time. Perth was named by a Scotch Member of the railroad crew after Perth, Scotland. In the spring of 1897, there were three buildings in Perth: the section house, the blacksmith shop, and a house. The town of Perth has dwindled in size over the years, but still holds a rich history in it's streets. Perth. Year unknown Perth. Year 1910. Present day Perth. Population approximately 20. The story of “Anacin" Peter Bugge was born in Trondheim, Norway. Mr. Bugge came to Perth, and later moved to Bisbee, which is about 10 miles SW of Perth. He owned the local drug store in Bisbee. While in Bisbee, he developed a headache and arthritis medication, call “Treo-feen.” For a while it was sold throughout the U.S. and Europe. Today it is sold under the name “Anacin”. It was difficult for him to compete in the national markets against established brands of aspirin, so he sold his store in Bisbee and moved to California, where he continued to work as a pharmacist Back to top |
